The UK Sepsis Trust

The UK Sepsis Trust's mission is to save lives from sepsis and severe infection and to improve outcomes for survivors. We achieve this by:

• providing resources for health professionals
• raising awareness in order to empower the public to access healthcare at the right time
• offering support for those affected, including the bereaved

Since founding in 2012, mortality rates in the UK have reduced from 30% to 20%, a reduction of approximately 4,800 deaths due to sepsis per year.

Sepsis occurs when our immune systems overreact to an infection – usually bacterial but also viral, including as a consequence of SARS-CoV-2. Globally it claims 11 million lives a year, yet with early diagnosis it can often be treated quickly and easily. Sepsis is a medical emergency – saving lives requires a public who know this, and who know when and how to access healthcare.

We need support to help increase awareness of this condition which affects 245,000 people each year, with 48,000 deaths.
