Spreading Warmth and Support: 1 Mill Street Members Take Over Helping Hands’ Soup Kitchen for The Big Help Out 2023

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, 20 members from the 1 Mill Street community recently joined forces to support Helping Hands’ Soup Kitchen as part of The Big Help Out 2023. This remarkable initiative brought together dedicated individuals, who prepared and served meals throughout the day, extending a helping hand to those in need.

But Helping Hands is more than just a place for free meals. It serves as a vital support system, offering medical care, counselling, and a safe space for vulnerable individuals to find hope and a sense of belonging.

The warm hubs established by Helping Hand play a crucial role in intervening and helping vulnerable individuals get back on their feet. Beyond providing nourishing meals, these hubs offer a wide range of services, including doctors’ clinics, counselling sessions, and a warm environment for socialising. Lianne Kirkman, the visionary CEO and Founder of Helping Hand, highlighted the significance of this initiative, stating, “Today is more than just a handout. It’s a hand up.”

The Big Help Out is a nationwide initiative launched to celebrate the King’s Coronation and foster a culture of giving back. It serves as a platform to inspire individuals and communities to unite in support of charitable causes, magnifying the positive impact they can make when they work together.

Participating in this extraordinary opportunity left the 1 Mill Street community feeling immensely grateful. El Prior, an event coordinator, expressed their collective sentiment, stating, “We were able to come together as a work community and do something brilliant for our neighbours. It was an eye-opening and special day for all of us, and we can’t thank Helping Hands enough for giving us the opportunity to meet their clients and be part of such an inspiring and worthy cause.”
